We're a collective of five college students aspiring to get degrees in media. With this blog, we aim to explore the media industry by analyzing its complexities, intricacies, and the impact it has on society.
Without further ado, let's get personal!
Emily
As a college student attending a research university, I'm really excited to be working on this project! When I was younger, my mom illustrated children's books as a hobby therefore she instilled upon me at a young age how important reading and writing is. I've always enjoyed writing and my hobby followed me all throughout my earlier years. All throughout high school, I was very active with my schools online magazine, yearbook, and video announcements which helped steer me toward my current path which I am now pursuing for my undergrad. Communications is a very broad major, so as of right now I don't have my heart set on a certain aspect of the field, which is exciting for me because I feel as though I can "get my feet wet" in a variety of projects and benefit from it all. In my free time I enjoy traveling and writing about my experiences, as pictured above. I plan on studying abroad my sophomore or junior year in Italy and possibly interning abroad. I also enjoy horseback riding and running! I hope to gain a better understanding of myself and this field through this experience.
I too am a Communication major. Writing has always been a very personal and introspective
venture for me. I write to rationalize my thoughts, or to put to paper everything that happens to preserve them for decades to come. In a weird sense,
everything to me feels ethereal and fleeting until it is written and set in
tangible form. Other than writing, traveling is another favorite of
mine. I have a scratch map in my room to keep track of all the countries I travel to. The picture here is of me in Barcelona. I’ve been to New York, Paris, Hong
Kong and Singapore (where I’m from) - just to name a few - and there is literally no way I can put to words
how it feels like to be standing in the city centre and taking it all in. Yes,
this one is a city girl at heart. The future is still unwritten for me. I have ambitions to work for a non-profit organization or to go into teaching. As long as it's something meaningful, I'll find it.

I have always been interested in video games, I love to play video games. But after playing video games for many years, I begin to see a pattern in all the video games that come out. Most of the games that come out games that have always been in existence. Some games are based off of stories or anime that have been published. Others are games that are mostly thought up and then other games use the same type of format to attract players for that game. I don't play video games all the time of course, I would rather go outside and play with people that I know than play video games inside against the computer or people that I do not know. Writing has always been a hard thing for me since most people who plays video games online against opponents do not have the time to put in good grammar. My favorite word that I type in video games is lol.

Hello everyone! My name is Johnny and although I haven’t officially declared my major I will say some things about myself to get this started. I am currently a sophomore at the best university in the mid-west. My parents are the two greatest, and most influential people I will ever come across in my lifetime, and have the left the biggest impressions as to who I am as a person. Some of my hobbies include playing guitar, listening to pop punk/rock music, playing and watching football, skateboarding, and just hanging out with family and friends having a good time. I would definitely consider myself a person who is interested in a lot of different things. I'll get super interested in one thing for a while, and then it'll be something completely different for some time, and something else, and then another thing. The attention I show to my interests kind of just rotates in my life and I think that's a reason I see myself as a versatile person. I'm an ambitious person who isn't afraid to take the risks necessary to reach my most desirable goal, but I'm also a college student who's just trying to get a solid degree in something that I’m interested in. I very much enjoy writing, and I’m totally and completely infatuated by the idea of starting my own business, or just creating something I find success in doing. I am trying my best to find a balance with those two things as I attend this awesome school and participate alongside my fellow peeps in this research blog!

I'm a 20-year-old South African who is currently pursuing a degree in Media and Information. With dreams of succeeding Oprah and/or Glenn Geller, president of CBS Entertainment, I have my eyes firmly fixed on concentrating on production and filming which I hope will equip me with the skills necessary as I pursue my career. I'll also be minoring in Entrepreneurship and Innovation as I've always loved business in conjunction with media. In South Africa I worked as a presenter on two different television shows which tackled mental illness as a growing pandemic in South Africa. Now I aim to explore the American Tv space. Im often described as hyper-curious and charismatic and believe questioning allows one to create their best work. My authenticity is my biggest strength.
