In the past two years, there has been a lot more reported shootings and some people blame violent video games. There has been lots of attempts to ban selling violent games to minors but they have been put down by congress. That was then reinforced by the supreme court ruling of Brown vs Entertainment Merchants Association. It was said that the law violated the first amendment's freedom of speech. Some people blame violent video games because it diminishes the importance of life. People who don’t agree with that argue that there is no research that supports the link between video games and violence.
I feel as though the problem is not the games itself, I feel like the better the graphics, the more people feel like it is real and thus this affects the way they view life. Bullying has always been a problem even before video games came out. Not all of the shootings that occur were done by teenagers. Most shootings were done by adults and thus video games should not be blamed- that they alter the course of thinking children have. Violent video games maybe even take out the violent energy that children have because they are shooting up something in the virtual world. There has been a 204% increase of video game sales from 1994 to 2014 while the percentage of murders alone among juveniles fell by 76%. The violence and crime among juveniles in fact decreased by 37%. Maybe people should be thinking more on the lines of making games less real and not forcing restrictions on who can or cannot buy video games.
