What is Media?

What is media? When you see that question, most of the time one thinks immediately about the television, Facebook, twitter, Instagram, radio and television. That is not all the medias. The books you have maybe on the bookshelf, the video games that you play, they are all considered media.

Media was first used way back when the first book became available. As time went on, new media is invented and became used more frequently. It went from bamboo books that were used in Ancient China, to books that were made out of paper that is not the paper we use today, to better paper, to the invention of the printing press. Media came a long ways, about 300 years ago, people had newspaper as the main media source. About 120 years ago, the first radio was used and patented. About 100 years ago, television became known to the public and was used for public opinions. About 80 years ago, the first computer was built and through the next 77 years, it continued to evolve itself to become the biggest media used instrument ever known to mankind.

Today, many children cannot live without the use of media. Even in times when they are not supposed to, they sneak on it just so they don’t miss out on anything important that comes up in the media sites.
